Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev had nothing to do with the death of 29-year-old Russian journalist Daria Dugina, daughter of philosopher Alexander Dugin.
“It is absolutely not our responsibility. It is not our country’s citizens, it does not concern us. At a press conference after the results of the Crimean Platform forum, the politician was not on the territory of Ukraine,” he said.
On the evening of August 20, Dugina attended the Tradition literature and music festival, where her father Alexander taught. Around 21:25 Daria left the festival in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. A few minutes later, on the Mozhayskoye highway near the village of Bolshie Vyazemy, the car exploded and collided with a fence. While the woman died at the scene, one of the first to reach the scene was her father.
Two days later, the Public Affairs Center of the Russian FSB reported that the murder had been solved. The ministry claims that it was “prepared and processed by the Ukrainian special services”.
“The contractor is Vovk Natalya Pavlovna, a Ukrainian citizen born in 1979, who came to Russia on July 23, 2022 with her daughter Shaban Sofia Mihaylovna, born in 2010,” said the FSB in a statement.
Security forces determined that the suspects rented an apartment in the building where the philosopher’s daughter lived.
It was clarified that when watching Daria, a Mini Cooper was used, when entering Russia, DPR numbers – E982XH DPR, in Moscow – Cossack numbers – 172AJD02, and when leaving – Ukrainian numbers – AH7771IP.
According to the FSB’s statement, on the day of the tragedy, Vovk and his daughter attended the Festival of Tradition, in which Daria Dugina participated. A few hours after the car explosion, Vovk and his daughter crossed the Estonian border in the Pskov region on August 21.
The secret service handed over the materials to the Investigative Committee – investigators plan to put Vovk on the wanted list.
On August 23, the Investigative Committee released a video of searches of the capital’s garage and apartment rented by Vovk. Investigation is looking for “investigation-related issues”.
As part of the criminal case, experts determine the power of the explosive device, interrogate the relatives of the victim, personnel and participants of the festival, witnesses of the tragedy. Britain assumes that other defendants in the case may soon appear, now these are being established.
On August 21, Ukraine denied any involvement in the murder of Alexander Dugin’s daughter, with Mikhail Podolyak, chief adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, calling the accusations “imaginary worlds”.
On August 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Darya Dugin a posthumous Order of Courage.
On August 23, a farewell ceremony was held in Moscow for the deceased, a civil memorial service was held at the Ostankino television center. Dugin was buried in the Moscow region, only relatives were in the cemetery.
