In some countries, there are more dogs than children. However, the issue is not that people leave their families largely for pets. Such results came to scientists from Etvash Loranda University (Hungary). Research Results published In the magazine of current instructions in psychological sciences (CDP).
Many people think of family members of their dogs and put them commitment to human relations. According to the results of the study, 19% of the participants who have no children and 10% of parents appreciate their dogs in the same way as a loved one.
“Some people see dogs as new children, while others find this ridiculous idea. Some studies show that dog owners can get a more negative attitude towards parenting.
For the scientist, in this case, the dog does not replace parenting, but completes or comes before it. However, if the owner relies on a dog only for emotional support, some problems may arise.
“The number of children does not diminish due to the increase in the number of dogs, but both are associated with a single tendency: the transformation of social networks,” he says.
The need for care and love is characteristic of most people, but in modern society, it becomes easier to obtain social support from pets due to damaged or incomplete relationships between people. For the same reason, races with “cute” features are popular – causing a person to look in response.
“The highly changing attitude towards dogs shows that people in Western societies have a significant care and social interaction shortage – and they are trying to compensate for this partly with the help of dogs and probably cats,” he said.
