Studies have shown that with this disease, abnormal mitochondria of beta cells could not produce energy, which could not synthesize sufficient amount of insulin or use it to maintain normal blood sugar levels. However, these scientific studies could not explain why the cells behaved in this way.
Researchers from the United States found that the main cause of dysfunction of Bita-Cells mitochondria was a special stress reaction. The team repeated the experiments of mice on liver cells and adipose tissue, and that a similar reaction does not allow normal development and not only the endocrine system.
As part of experimental treatment, scientists used a drug called ISRIB that prevented the stress reaction. The result was the restoration of the functions of beta cells and the normalization of blood sugar within four weeks.
