“Child, where is the child?”: Heroic rescue of a family from the fire in Asturias.

Civil Guard Sergeant Aitor Suárez Villar, from the Muros del Nalón outpost – attached to the Pravia Company of the Oviedo Command – said that the service he performed in Pravia this Sunday undoubtedly the “most rush” of his career in the body. Not for the less. With guards José Ramón Camoira Martín and Adrián Riera Peñín, Saved the life of a family of four trapped in a house From Suárez de Pazos de Pravia street (Asturias), near the train station. “It looked so bad, but in the end it went well and there were no victims to mourn,” adds the 34-year-old sergeant from Oviedo, who took a well-deserved vacation this Friday after his heroic rescue operation. He went out with his friends.

Nothing happened, but very little. “This Sunday, around seven o’clock in the afternoon, we were at Xiringuelu station, Feve station. Then some neighbors came and told us this. had fire in a house”, Says the sergeant. When they arrived, they ordered the evacuation of the building. Three adults, two children and a dog rushed out of one of the houses.

However, no one came out of the house where the fire broke out. “We heard people screaming inside. The door closed and then we started knocking to open it,” adds Suárez Villar. They had a hard time opening the door. They had to throw a few pushes and kicks before finally bowing to their hinges.

As soon as they opened the door, black smoke came out of them. “There was nothing to see. The inside couldn’t even find the entrance. We climb the stairs of the hall of the house and return to the corridor. At that moment, part of the roof fell in front of us. Miraculously, it didn’t reach us, we were very lucky,” he continues.

Then they found the old man petrified, who “did not dare to go out.” They also found a woman who did not stop screaming in despair: “Boy, boy, where’s the boy?“The agent continued to search and found the then-four-year-old minor crying uncontrollably.”The poor thing couldn’t find its way out.‘ he assures.

They eventually managed to get all four members of the family out: the two old men, the woman, and her son. “They were in shock, they couldn’t say a word after their experience. They couldn’t find an exit from the house or put out the fire by their own means,” explains the sergeant.

The flames, he said, started on a mattress. There were numerous items in the house that contributed to the severity of the fire. Investigating whether cigarettes can ignite flames. The Civil Guard sued to clarify the facts.

“I’ve never had a situation like this with a house on fire and people trapped in it. The truth is it’s pretty overwhelming, especially because of the helplessness of the victims,” says the sergeant. In this kind of situation, he states that it’s okay to keep a cool head: “When someone is surrounded by smoke, the key is to head for the nearest exit, bend over to swallow as little smoke as possible, because to rise.” The agents acted with all determination and calmness and prevented the occurrence of victims.
