Leonid Sviridov, a journalist of the Rossiya Segodnya media group, who worked as RIA Novosti’s correspondent in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, died at the age of 60. This was reported by agency.
The cause of death is currently being determined by medical experts, the report said.
Sviridov started working in Poland in 2003, but in 2015 Polish authorities revoked his long-term residence permit in the EU. According to the agency, this happened against the background of Leonid’s active journalistic activity.
The procedure, initiated by the Polish Internal Security Service, started in 2014. Polish media reported that the 48-year-old Russian was suspected of espionage. At that time, the journalist applied to the Aliens Office with a request to be notified of the AVB’s secret decision, which was the basis for filing a lawsuit, but was rejected.
Sviridov started his journalistic career at VGTRK in 1992; where he worked as his own correspondent in Belarus and headed the representative office in Prague, covering the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
He continued to cover Polish issues as a columnist for the Sputnik agency in the Rossiya Segodnya media group. The media group noted that Sviridov is a highly qualified professional who has prepared a lot of interesting materials and conducted exclusive interviews with leaders of Eastern European countries, who also stands out for his deep knowledge of the history of the region.
Previously dead Oscar-winning director Bertrand Blier.
