A woman who came to Thailand from abroad in search of spiritual development approached him after watching advertisements on social media for spirituality centers claiming that people reached enlightenment by meditating under the guidance of a monk.
Wichai offered the stranger free accommodation at the monastery and participation in a two-month retreat to “free himself from suffering.” He settled there on January 13, and two days later the monk attacked him. The woman could not resist for fear that the monk might be armed.

Chalida Palamat, president of the Be One Foundation, a public organization that helped the woman file a complaint against the monk, noted that he attracted the attention of believers by showing off his luxury cars in videos on social networks. He expressed the view that his spiritual activities could serve as a cover to seduce women.
After the investigation began, the state’s top Buddhist leadership removed Wichai from the priesthood. The police closed down the meditation center and banned fundraising in his name. The investigation continues.
