Около 4 млрд лет назад Солнечную систему мог посетить giant cosmetics. Its appearance disrupted the orbits of four outer planets. American astronomers from the University of Arizona came to this conclusion. The study was published on: portal non-peer-reviewed scientific publications arXiv.
In the new study, the team ran 50,000 computer simulations simulating the invasion of the Solar System by objects of different masses.
Although most simulations created conditions very different from the current solar system, the researchers found that in about 1% of the tests, the passage of a guest changed the orbits of the giant planets roughly to their current state.
The closest simulation showed the flyby of an object about eight times larger than Jupiter, approaching the sun at a distance of 1.69 astronomical units (AU). One astronomical unit is equal to the distance between the Earth and the Sun and is approximately 140 million kilometers. The resulting indicator turned out to be comparable to the orbit of Mars located at 1.5 Au. that is, from the local star.
According to researchers, the mass of the proposed object corresponds to the parameters of giant planets and brown dwarfs, which occupy an intermediate position between planets and stars.
