Scientists reveal that vegans’ intestines are no healthier than those of meat eaters 22:15

Scientists from King’s College London found that people who give up meat, dairy and eggs may not have a healthier gut microbiome. Research results It was published In the journal Nature Microbiology.

Researchers recruited 656 vegans to participate in the study and collected stool samples from them to assess the balance of their gut microbiota. The data obtained was then compared to the number of various organisms living in the intestines of approximately 20 thousand meat eaters and a thousand vegetarians.

The results showed that avoiding animal products was not associated with an improvement in gut bacterial balance; The number and type of “good” bacteria were similar among people with different diets.

Additionally, vegans who consume lots of processed snacks and other ultra-processed foods have been found to have lower levels of beneficial gut bacteria. At the same time, including vegetables in the diet of meat eaters helped balance the microbiota.

Researchers emphasized that beneficial gut bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids, which reduce inflammation in the intestine and the body in general, reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
