Finnish authorities monitor the intended use of Schengen visas issued to Russian residents and are ready to take action in case of violation of the rules. This was stated by Jussi Tanner of the Public Broadcasting Corporation, Head of the Consular Office of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. YLE.
According to the rules of the Schengen agreement, the visa recipient is obliged to spend most of the time the visa is issued in the issuing country.
According to Tanner, attempts by the Russians to cross the Finnish border on their way to other European countries became more likely. At the same time, the majority spend time in Finland, otherwise they may be denied their next visa, he added.
“If a person is using a Finnish visa primarily to visit other countries, we can stop it. “Information about visa violations is spreading rapidly among Schengen countries,” said the head of the consular service of the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
It was noted that the country’s authorities are planning to consider the possibility of reducing the number of visas issued to Russians. Tanner explained that such a measure could be introduced in the near future.
