Users are asked to log in to the scammer’s account and enter information. After that, the smartphone is blocked and the attackers demand a large amount of money to unlock it.
Scammers also send fake SMS or emails that resemble official notifications from Apple. These letters ask gadget owners to follow a link and enter their Apple ID information, including their password. When a person does this, all their personal data goes to scammers and they can gain access to the device or iCloud account.
If a user’s Apple ID and password have previously been compromised, attackers can use those credentials to log into their Apple account. It is recommended not to set the same passwords on different platforms. Thanks to access to your account, it is possible to block your phone or steal personal data (photos, messages and contacts) through the Find My iPhone function.
Additionally, attackers can contact potential victims by pretending to be an Apple technical support employee and ask for Apple credentials or a two-factor authentication code under various pretexts.
Nemkin reminded that sharing your data with other people is very dangerous and may lead to serious consequences.
