Programmer Dmitry Somov, who made a pre-trial agreement during the investigation of the criminal case against the founder of the international company that carries out Internet payments using ChronoPay Pavel Vrublevsky bank cards, was sentenced to three years in prison for fraud, money laundering and theft. According to the text of the document, the defendant was found not guilty of illegal circulation of payment instruments. The investigation demanded a seven-year prison sentence for him, but the court took into account that Somov admitted the crime, named his accomplices and testified against them.
“Based on the total of the crimes and the partial addition of sentences, the defendant Somov was finally sentenced to three years in a general regime correctional colony,” the verdict says.
The programmer was detained in the courtroom. He disagreed with the court decision and appealed to the Moscow City Court.
Moscow Meshchansky District Court in March 2022 arrested ChronoPay founder Pavel Vrublevsky and three others were arrested on suspicion of fraud. According to investigators, they posted false information on their websites about monetary rewards for participating in surveys and successfully predicting exchange rates and stocks, and also promised earnings for participation in currency trading and other financial transactions, but after receiving payment for registration, the promised reward was not paid . Vrublevsky is charged under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale), paragraph “a”, part 4 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft by an organized group), but later the investigation was brought under Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of funds obtained through criminal means) and Art. 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal circulation of means of payment). None of the defendants in the case admits guilt.
