On the eve of Black Friday, demand for logistics services increased to 50% 03:06

Every year on Black Friday and New Year’s Eve, logisticians note that the demand for their services increases as the consumption of goods increases significantly. This year was no exception. This was confirmed by the companies Skif-Cargo, ROKOTT Trans, DA-TRANS and Business Lines, socialbites.ca has learned.

Dmitry Khrushchalev, Deputy General Director for the Development of Business Lines of the Group of Companies, stated that the company sees high demand for deliveries to the markets by an average of 22% every year in late September – early October.

According to statistics of the last two years, the largest increase in demand compared to the annual average was recorded in shipments from the Far Eastern (+32%), Northwest (+31%) and Volga (+27%) federal districts. The top 3 cities with an increase in the number of orders for transportation to trading platforms on the eve of sales include Kazan (+39%), Chelyabinsk (+32%) and St. Petersburg. Petersburg (+32%).

When we consider the product categories, the number of toy and electronic deliveries (+30%) increases in this period. Additionally, during this period, marketplace providers are more likely to order delivery of consumer goods, clothing, furniture, and major appliances.

Mikhail Koptev, commercial director of the federal transport company Skif-Cargo, agrees with them. According to him, the increase in the volume of deliveries to offline stores and marketplaces is primarily due to the desire of sellers to “stock up” goods in order not to miss the opportunity to meet customer demand.

“The increase in supply volumes may vary by product category and region, but on average it varies between 20 percent and 50 percent compared to normal periods,” said Mikhail Koptev.

According to Skif-Cargo statistics, the most popular products during the sales period and before the New Year are electronics (phones, tablets, headphones, smart watches, laptops), household appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, food processors), clothing and shoes, sports equipment, children’s clothing, cosmetics and perfumes, household goods.

Almost the same products were included in TC “DA-TRANS”. The following segments recorded increased popularity: electronics, clothing, children’s products and home appliances.

“During the sales period, the volume of logistics operations increases by 20-30 percent compared to the rest of the year. However, this indicator may vary depending on the region and the specific market,” added TC DA-TRANS logistics manager Ekaterina Genza.

The reasons for this growth are clear: Consumers actively take advantage of discounts and special campaigns and try to buy gifts for themselves and their loved ones. As a result, the burden on supply chains and logistics systems increases. At the same time, goods may be delayed due to various reasons. We are talking about the shortage of containers for sending goods from China and delays at customs due to increased demand.

Egor Tarasov, founder of the logistics company ROKOTT Trans, stated that the figures are in the range of 25-30%. This is how the demand for logistics services increases during Black Friday and New Year’s holidays. At the same time, the check grows in monetary terms by 20-25%. This is due to the increase in the number of goods shipped and the urgency of delivery.

“We see the most pronounced changes in the Far East and Northwest regions, where traffic volumes increased by 15% and 12% respectively. This is due to the active development of regions, improvement of infrastructure and increase in foreign trade flows,” said Egor Tarasov.

He also added that the development of online shopping and the increase in the capacity of marketplaces have led to the expansion of the so-called “high season”. The market “comes to life” not only in September, but also begins to grow significantly from the beginning of October and remains at a high level until mid-February.

Roman Sudorgin, founder of the cargo transportation portal Main Transport, noted that the growth in shipments from the Far Eastern Federal District is quite understandable, logistics chains are being rebuilt and most of the goods purchased on Black Friday were previously produced in China. The difference is that earlier these goods could initially be delivered to warehouses in Moscow, but now with the rapid development of warehouse infrastructure in the regions, the need for such complex logistics is decreasing. The situation in the Northwestern Federal District is interesting, where exports are growing faster, but imports are falling. Thus, according to DPD, in the TOP-3 receiving regions, the Northwestern Federal District will be replaced by the Southern Federal District in the first half of 2024.
