Scientists from Denmark and Kuwait have found a 4,000-year-old temple in the Persian Gulf dating back to the early Dilmun civilization (3200-320 BC). This was reported by Arkeonews.
Described as “the place where the sun rises” and “the land of the living”, the Dilmun civilization was one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It was located in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The capital, Dilmun, was located in the Persian Gulf archipelago that is now part of Bahrain.
Due to its advantageous location, Dilmun was a major trading center and dominated the trade routes of the Persian Gulf. Despite its importance and long history, the Dilmun civilization is considered one of history’s greatest mysteries because so little is known about it.
As a result of long excavations, another temple and a temple belonging to this ancient civilization were found very close to the “palace”. The temple’s proximity to a large administrative building indicates that the area was an important center of government and religion. Currently, the entire temple measuring 11 x 11 meters has been excavated. Numerous artifacts, including seals and pottery, were also found indicating the temple’s connection to the Dilmun civilization. The discovery could be a breakthrough in understanding the country’s religious practices.
