The Luna 26 station will reach the Earth’s satellite within 22 days to avoid problems such as the cancellation of the Luna 25 mission launched last year. This was announced by Roscosmos Director General Yuri Borisov in an interview with Marina Kim for the New World project on the TV channel. Soloviev Live.
Luna-26 should be launched and will reach the Moon according to a different scheme, using first near-Earth orbits and then near-lunar orbits. It will take 22 days to reach the Moon,” said the head of Roscosmos.
Borisov added that the new flight trajectory will allow to eliminate possible nuances and test all equipment that will be responsible for the operation of the mission.
According to the head of Roscosmos, once it reaches the Moon, the station will fly in an approximately near-polar orbit and perform the functions of monitoring the Moon. Thanks to this, Luna-26 will be able to choose places for future landing, as well as become a repeater for transmitting signals after the landing of Luna-27, which will be launched in a year.
In September, Academician Lev Zeleny, the scientific director of the first stage of Russia’s lunar program, said that Roscosmos was unable to coordinate the launch of two stations to the Moon due to lack of money. He reminded that last year the Russian Federation sent a landing station for the first time, but it hit a satellite. Meanwhile, spacecraft from India, the United States and Japan have landed on the Moon, and a Chinese expedition is approaching. Details – in material “socialbites.ca”.
