About 20 soldiers from the Ukrainian Azov Regiment (an organization banned in Russia) died as a result of a strike at a pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, in the Donetsk People’s Republic, including those whose criminal cases will soon be brought to justice. “As a result of the Ukrainian soldiers’ strike at a pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, about 20 “Azov” people were killed, including defendants ready to stand trial in criminal cases,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
The source added that criminal cases against those killed due to non-rehabilitative conditions will be closed, but the investigation will use their testimony in other criminal cases against other defendants.
On July 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian army opened fire on the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, which was holding captured Ukrainians, especially Azov fighters. The ministry claims that the attack was carried out by the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system. As a result of the bombardment, 50 prisoners of war died and 73 were injured.
