Scientists find out how much weight you can lose with three months of intermittent fasting 23:10

Various intermittent fasting plans can help you lose weight if you’re obese, but the amount of pounds you lose may not be enough to improve your health. This was shown by a study conducted at Bond University (Australia) and published in the journal. JAMA Network Open.

Researchers analyzed 29 randomized clinical trials involving 2,485 adults. 69 percent of them were women and the average age was 44. The average body mass index (BMI) is 33 kg/m2, which corresponds to obesity.

Weight loss measures included time-restricted eating, reducing the frequency of meals to eight meals, and consuming most calories in the first half of the day. All these measures resulted in a loss of 1.3 to 1.8 kg in three months. The participants also had lower levels of glycated hemoglobin and fasting glucose. Because the changes are small, it is unclear how they affect diabetes risk.

The dietary interventions studied may be a simple approach to weight loss, the researchers noted. However, the modest weight loss observed may not provide significant health benefits. Obesity affects one in eight people worldwide, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.

However, many studies were of poor quality. Scientists believe larger and longer experiments are needed to draw definitive conclusions.
