It all happened at the Chipinque Hotel in the city of San Pedro Garza Garcia in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Footage taken from the scene shows the black bear leaning on the table and feasting on the remaining food on the plate. The victim was sitting next to her boyfriend. Possibly surprised by the sudden appearance of the predator, the couple was afraid to move and simply waited for the situation to be resolved, while the hotel employee and security guard surrounded the table in an attempt to drive the bear away. After finishing his meal, he made a harsh move and hit the woman in the face, then the woman got up from the chair and left the dangerous place. As stated, he escaped with a few scratches.
Black bears are considered an endangered species in Mexico and are found in the northern highlands of the country. They are known for leaving their habitats due to drought and food shortages and opening up to humans, especially in the Monterrey region, Mexico’s second largest city with a population of 5.2 million. Authorities ask people not to approach or disturb the bears, including taking photos. Residents are also advised to keep food away from predators and not to leave litter around.
