In the new study, 140 people with chronic low back pain were randomly assigned to online training or regular doctor follow-up. Yoga instructors taught classes using a program specifically designed for people with lower back pain.
Online classes resulted in a nearly threefold improvement in back functionality. The intensity of pain decreased sixfold. Painkiller use was 34% lower in the yoga group. Additionally, 10 times more participants reported improved sleep quality.
“This study shows that an online yoga program may be a safe and effective treatment for chronic low back pain,” the authors said.
