CNN showed satellite images of Chinese “mini aircraft carrier” 11:43

China is completing construction of its newest aircraft carrier at the Guangzhou International Shipyard in the southern province of Guangdong. American TV channel reports this CNN With reference to satellite images from Planet Labs.

According to former US Navy submarine commander Thomas Shugart, the aircraft carrier has an unusual shape and size: it is much smaller than previous Chinese aircraft carriers.

The ship is even smaller than the Type 075 amphibious assault ships used by the Chinese navy, Shugart said, suggesting the country is building the world’s first civilian aircraft carrier as a type of oceanographic research ship.

The construction of the Chinese ship was first announced by The War Zone magazine, including satellite images. Experts determined that the new aircraft carrier is 200 m long and approximately 40 m wide. The ship also features a large “main island” to the right of the center of the deck and a smaller island near the bow.
