Norwegian scientists from the University of Bergen evaluated the factors affecting men’s negative attitudes towards women. The study was published in the scientific journal broadcasting Scandinavian Journal of Psychology (SJP).
Experts surveyed 473 unrelated men aged 18 to 35. Participants answered questions measuring their self-perceived attractiveness, sensitivity to rejection, degree of loneliness, political views, addictions, and perception of women.
The results showed that those who were most hostile to the opposite sex were men who found themselves both very attractive and very unattractive.
This suggests that both ends of the self-reported attractiveness spectrum may contribute to negative attitudes toward women, although the underlying motivations may differ. For example, men with high self-perceived attractiveness may exhibit narcissistic tendencies, while men who perceive themselves as unattractive men may vent their frustrations, leading to hostility toward women.
Additionally, aggression against women is also frequently experienced by supporters of authoritarian beliefs that maintain a rigid social hierarchy.
The study also found a link between gambling addiction and misogyny in men.
Previous scientists I learnedWhy women most often refuse to have sexual intercourse – men who, for various reasons, cannot find a partner for intimate relationships.
