NASA and SpaceX decided to postpone the launch of the Europa Clipper spacecraft on October 10 due to the approaching Hurricane Milton. This has been reported US Aeronautics and Space Agency website.
“Hurricane Milton is expected to exit the Gulf of Mexico this week and move east toward the Space Coast. High winds and heavy rain are expected in the Cape Canaveral and Merritt Island areas off Florida’s east coast, the release said.
The mission team secured the probe in a SpaceX hangar.
“The safety of launch team personnel is our top priority, and every precaution will be taken to protect the Europa Clipper spacecraft,” said Tim Dunn, senior director for launches for NASA’s Launch Services Program.
The spacecraft that will explore Jupiter’s moon Europa will be launched with the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The launch window will be open until November 6.
Europa Clipper is NASA’s flagship mission. The solar-powered vehicle will orbit Jupiter and make about 50 flybys of Europe to determine whether there are places where life might exist beneath the Moon’s icy surface.
