Scientists confirm taking vitamin D supplements improves heart health 10:30

Scientists from the Zhongyuan Food Laboratory (China), together with their US colleagues, discovered that taking vitamin D supplements significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, especially in people with a deficiency of this substance in the body. Research results It was published In Engineering magazine.

Researchers analyzed results from 99 previously published studies on the effects of vitamin D on cardiometabolic health. In total, more than 17 thousand people took part in them.

Taking about 3,320 IU of vitamin D per day was found to help reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, fasting glucose, and insulin levels. The most pronounced effect was observed in representatives of non-European populations, those with low levels of vitamin D at baseline, a normal body mass index and those over 50 years of age.

The scientists also noted that long-term interventions (supplementation for three months or longer) and increasing doses to optimize cardiometabolic health outcomes in certain populations produce consistent results.

Researchers are not yet fully clear what mechanisms underlie the beneficial effects of vitamin D supplements. They plan to conduct additional studies to find out.
