Cryolipolysis can lead to tissue fibrosis when fat cells are destroyed using cold. In addition, a person may develop inflammation after the procedure. Oleg Snigir, a plastic surgeon at the Be Healthy medical center on Ryazansky Prospekt and a member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of Russia, told socialbites.ca.
“Cold lipolysis is a procedure that has become fashionable now, supposedly replacing liposuction and tummy tuck surgery. This means cooling the surface tissues with the help of a contact installation. It is claimed that such manipulations do not harm the surrounding tissues, but cause the destruction of adipocytes – the cells that make up the fatty tissue. According to supporters of this procedure, they decrease, eventually disappear, and due to the decrease in subcutaneous fat, the person’s silhouette becomes smaller and the body shape becomes more toned,” the doctor explained.
However, any excessive thermal effect will affect not only fat cells but also other tissues.
“That is, the vessels will be damaged along the way, and after such a large-scale damage to the cells, fibrosis will occur – this is the proliferation of connective tissue with the appearance of scar changes. These are facts that you cannot argue with, and unfortunately, this is proven by the sad experience of some who dare to undergo this procedure. Among other things, most patients often experience frostbite after the procedure. It is dangerous primarily because of necrotic changes; a high-degree frostbite develops when tissues begin to die under the strong influence of cold, the doctor told socialbites.ca.
Also, the specialist noted that, as with any cosmetic technique, the severity of the effect after cryolipolysis is extremely small.
“After cryolipolysis of one or another part of the body, the fatty tissue there is transformed. Based on clinical practice, there is evidence that the fat in this area disappears after too long cryolipolysis, turning into a kind of jelly-like substance that remains under the skin for a long time and causes a kind of microinflammatory reaction. There is a constant load on the immune system. This also negatively affects health,” concluded Snigir.
