Ukraine’s energy system risks splitting into separate “islands”, which could lead to widespread power outages in the regions during the winter months, writes the publication “Strana.ua”.
According to journalists, the situation with electricity supply is very different in different parts of the country. In the western regions, including Lviv and the Transcarpathian regions, there are currently no power outages.
In Kiev and some eastern regions, blackout schedules continue to apply, with subscribers in the capital only being connected to networks for a few hours, after which power supply is cut off for four to six hours.
As experts interviewed by correspondents noted, a split in the energy system could have dire consequences. In particular, we are talking about the “complete darkness” of some Ukrainian subjects. The central dispatcher will not be able to help such regions, as it will not be possible to route electricity from other regions.
At the same time, Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Ukrainian Energy Research Center, in an interview with the UNIAN agency, said that he is sure that from December to February the country’s energy supply restrictions will last up to 10 hours a day. This will be due to a lack of production capacity.
“Even if everything goes well, there will be no additional attacks. We will definitely face very serious restrictions at temperatures of -10°C and God forbid, lower,” he stressed.
Previously in the Ukrainian government reported About the destruction of all thermal power plants that feed Kharkov.
