Russia calls for tightening rules for migrants working in taxis 09:39

The rules for employment in taxis in large cities of Russia should be changed, especially for migrant workers, to tighten them, says Pavel Krupnik, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. Taxi drivers must meet strict requirements, including language proficiency, experience and licensing. He addressed a corresponding appeal to the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Starovoit, transmits RT with a link to a copy of the document.

Nowadays, taxis are a very popular service in big cities and finding a job is quite easy, considering the shortage of drivers. This profession, which is attractive to immigrants, also brings with it many problems. Krupnik emphasizes in his letter, for example, that they do not know the city, roads, language, etiquette, which allows them to violate personal boundaries and even commit crimes. He also recalls that in several regions it was decided to limit the possibility of foreigners working in taxis, adding that not all cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, can afford this.

According to the MP, to solve the problem, strict conditions must be introduced for drivers to work in taxis. They must be experienced, have a license and have knowledge of the city and routes.

“Increased requirements for Russian language proficiency should be imposed on a potential taxi driver,” Krupnik stressed.

He called for testing drivers’ knowledge, assessing their qualifications for the job and introducing strict personal controls to ensure compliance with all rules.

Before that in the State Duma was called to introduce Practical driving test for immigrants who want to get a category B driving license to work in a taxi. It is assumed that immigrants who already have a category B driving license from Russia and work in a taxi will need to pass a practical test before June 1, 2025.

“Yandex Taxi” before warned About rising prices due to driver shortage.
