This effect was evident within 24 hours when 100 μg/ml of the substance was added to the cell lines. In addition, a maximum decrease in tumor cell activity was observed at increasing doses and longer exposure times.

Cancer cells in a cell line initially derived from bone metastases of human prostate cancer also responded to black garlic extract, but the dosage had to be increased to 1000 mcg/ml to stop their division. The inhibitory effect was observed at lower doses (100 µg/ml) within 48 hours of starting treatment. The scientists emphasized that the active substance also showed the ability to inhibit the migration of cancer cells and their formation into colonies.

Researchers have suggested that garlic’s cancer-fighting properties may be due to its polyphenol content. More research is needed to find out how they would manifest themselves in experimental treatments in humans.
