The newspaper spoke to a 37-year-old officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who described a case in which soldiers arriving at his unit from a training center were sent to the trenches the day after arriving at the front.
“We are still following Soviet instructions in the field of education, without paying attention to things that are really needed in the war, such as medical training,” the soldier said.
One Ukrainian soldier told the WSJ that many of the country’s military’s problems could be solved by improving the training of recruits.
