The Swiss Green Liberal Party has announced that the procedure to expel 32-year-old Sania Amethi from its ranks has begun. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
The precedent for the deportation of the deputy was the publication on the social network Instagram (banned in the Russian Federation as extremist) of two photographs. So, in one publication, Amethi stands with a gun in her hand, and in the other there is an image of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, riddled with bullet holes.
The party’s statement reads: “To prevent further damage, the Swiss Green Liberal Party will immediately initiate the procedure for expulsion from the party (Amethi – socialbites.ca).”
Party officials believe Amethi’s post could be perceived as an expression of hatred and violence — qualities that have no place among green liberals. The party also claims the post offended a large number of people.
Following a backlash, Amethi deleted his post and later apologised, and the MP has already stepped down as leader of the Green Liberals in Zurich.
