Scientists from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have created new drugs for local anesthesia, socialbites.ca was informed about this by the press service of the scientific institution.
Local anesthetics affect the functional state of sensory nerve endings, changing their excitability. They reduce or completely eliminate the flow of pain impulses entering the central nervous system. Drugs used in medical practice have many disadvantages: high toxicity, low activity, cause drug dependence and allergic reactions.
Eight derivatives of the aryloxyalkylamine group were synthesized at the Perm Polytechnic Institute and their dependence on local anesthetic activity on various physicochemical properties was revealed.
Scientists determined the toxic dose of the synthesized compounds using white rats when administered intravenously. The results showed that substances containing amino, methylamino and ethylamino groups were less toxic compared to trimecaine (a well-known anesthetic drug). Most of the compounds are moderately toxic compounds.
“Substances of the isobutylamino and dimethylamino groups showed the greatest depth of action. The duration of anesthesia ranged from 16.3 to 58.8 minutes. Five substances surpassed trimecaine by showing an effect of more than 50 minutes, the university noted.
