The US State Department has authorized the possible sale of Patriot anti-aircraft missile launchers and related equipment to the Netherlands for $224 million. The agency said in a statement that the US State Department “approved the potential sale to the Dutch Government of Patriot M903 launchers and related equipment in the specified quantity.” The document clarified that the Netherlands had previously requested the purchase of two such units, as well as equipment to modernize existing systems and other components.
The U.S. administration had previously notified Congress of this decision. Lawmakers have 30 days to review the deal and consider blocking it.
The Pentagon said the arms sale would not have a negative impact on U.S. combat readiness. The prime contractors for the deal are expected to be Lockheed Martin and RTX.
Previously the Pentagon concluded $5 billion contract to produce cutting-edge fighter jets.
