The Moscow City Court has recognized as legal the absentee sentence imposed on Pussy Riot member Pyotr Verzilov (known as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) in a criminal case for disseminating false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Court representatives reported this RIA Novosti.
As the agency’s source noted, “the decision of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow has not changed, and the appeal was not satisfied.”
According to the court decision, Verzilov was sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison in a general regime colony. In addition, as an additional punishment, he was banned from managing Internet resources for 3 years and 10 months.
This criminal case was reconsidered by the court. Verzilov was charged under Article 207.3, Part 2, item “e” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for liability for disseminating to the public deliberately false information on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The charges were based on his publications on social networks.
