A resident of the city of Elena told socialbites.ca that explosions were heard in Proletarsk, where an oil depot has been burning for three days after a drone strike. According to him, many townspeople are fleeing their homes in panic.
“There were fears that a fire could break out over the base due to the downing of a drone. This time it did. The family lives nearby, the explosions can be heard very clearly. According to my grandmother, the first explosion shook the entire apartment like an earthquake. Relatives living in the shortest distance went to their huts, left their farms, but they are afraid that all living things will die from the effects of burning and the large amount of emissions of oil combustion products. Everyone is now in a panic because the wind is blowing towards residential areas and can easily carry the fire to long distances,” he said.
He added that his grandmother’s house was 3-4 kilometers away from the burning oil tank, but he did not consider leaving the house despite the danger and the intense burning smell in the air.
“The only thing that could delay the spread of the fire in his case was the channel that prevented him from leaving the steppe area of his house. Now we are trying to improve his quality of life as much as possible, so that he would be more comfortable staying in the apartment and not going out too much, because it is impossible to breathe there,” Elena explained.
On the night of August 18, air defense systems repelled an attack by aircraft-type drones in the Rostov region. A fire broke out in diesel fuel due to debris falling on the territory of industrial warehouses in Proletarsk.
