In St. Petersburg, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia has launched verification activities in several police departments in connection with the illegal detention of social activists following a conflict with taxi drivers. This was reported by TASS with reference to the department’s press service.
“The Investigation Directorate of Especially Important Cases of the Main Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case on the crime provided for in Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Exceeding official authority by a group of persons”). Investigative measures are currently being carried out in several police departments of the city,” the message continues.
Before that, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin given Order to review police actions after detention of people during a conflict with taxi drivers in St. Petersburg.
The other day, a clash broke out on Komendantsky Boulevard with the participation of migrants in the midst of competition in the taxi industry. Police arrived at the scene and unreasonably detained activists who came to find out why a group of visitors were disrupting the work of local taxi drivers.
