Almost 90% of Armenian cognacs offered in Russian stores are unsafe. This was reported by TASS Citing a study conducted by the International Association “Fighting Counterfeiting” and the Association of Cognac, Spirits and Alcoholic Products Producers.
The study included 200 samples of alcoholic beverages of more than 20 brands from the ten largest Armenian producers. Cognac was purchased from federal retail chains and then transferred for analysis to an independent laboratory of the All-Russian Research Institute of Brewing, Non-Alcoholic and Wine Industry.
According to the results of the study, violations were detected in 177 beverage samples. Moreover, almost half of the samples were made from non-grape alcohol.
Based on the results of the work, the Association for Combating Counterfeiting appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Federal Customs Service and Rosalkogoltabakcontrol. In them, the association called for additional measures to control products imported into the country.
Prior to that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation recommended introduce criminal liability for importing goods without labeling. If the law is adopted, importers of counterfeit products will face a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, as well as up to three years of forced labor or imprisonment.
