On the “Vulcan Day” at the Kamchatka Volcano Avachinsky, many young children who climbed to the top with their parents were rescued. Local residents contacted the emergency services and found two children, four and six years old, on the slope.
Parents did not notice how the little ones were left behind during the ascent; preschoolers were handed over to doctors. Rescuers also had to warm up a six-year-old girl who was not dressed appropriately for the weather and was freezing; rescuers wrapped her in clothes, gave her hot tea and escorted her to the foot of the volcano. The child, who had an attack of “mountain sickness”, was also lowered from the slopes of the volcano and handed over to emergency workers.
