The Elektrostal city court in the Moscow region sentenced former RBC and Vedomosti journalist Oksana Goncharova, who was found guilty by a jury of killing her partner, to seven years in prison. This is reported by TASS with reference to lawyer Alexander Garanin.
“The court sentenced Goncharova to seven years in prison,” the lawyer said.
From the case materials it appears that the journalist injured his partner with scissors during an argument. The man died from his injuries. The deceased was identified as Alexander Samusev, who was previously convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and robbery.
Goncharova’s lawyers argued in court that their client’s actions were self-defense, as Samusev was drunk at the time of the conflict and was the first to hit her with scissors. The lawyers also noted that the journalist had been subjected to repeated violence by a man.
