Law enforcement authorities detained a resident of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) suspected of cooperating with foreign intelligence services and attempting to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The document states that a Ukrainian citizen was detained. He became a defendant in a criminal case initiated under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Espionage”).
“It was established that the LPR resident proactively collected information of a military nature and transferred it to the Ukrainian special services,” the ministry said.
During the interrogation, the man stated that he was pleased with the missile attacks on the republic’s territory, based on the information he received. He also confessed to committing a crime.

August 17 in the Kaluga region was detained Activist Igor Safronov, 36. A criminal case was opened against him on charges of treason, preparing a terrorist attack and attempting to join the Ukrainian Azov battalion (an organization recognized as terrorist and extremist and banned in Russia).
The Telegram channel “Attention, News” reported that in 2011 a man was already detained for organizing a strike. As journalists noted, Safronov began to cooperate with Ukrainian intelligence services 11 years later. In particular, he transferred money to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and planted explosives in warehouses in the region.
