Former teacher Vera Liddell was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to theft, according to media reports. According to police, the woman stole more than 11,000 boxes of chicken wings intended for remote students between mid-2020 and early 2022.
“Even though children were learning remotely, the school district continued to provide meals for students to pick up at their families,” the statement said.
The 68-year-old Liddell’s scam was revealed after an audit. The American reportedly resold the wings and appropriated the proceeds for himself. Police added that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
