“It is also worth paying attention to lean protein foods such as chicken, fish and eggs. These are excellent sources of protein that do not contain high levels of purines, which helps reduce the risk of uric acid stones,” the nephrologist said.
And of course, it’s important to drink enough water. According to the doctor, several large studies have shown that people who drink less than 1.5 liters of fluid per day have a 50% higher risk of developing kidney stones than those who drink more than 2.5 liters per day.
“To prevent kidney stones, you should avoid eating foods high in oxalates (e.g. spinach, rhubarb, beets), reduce your salt intake, and limit your intake of foods high in purines (e.g. red meat, seafood, organ meats),” the doctor added.
