Using gadgets before bedtime blocks melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep. Sleep problems can also cause wrinkles and worsen acne, eczema, and rosacea. About this post Talk storyl Michael Freeman, Associate Professor in Dermatology, Bond University.
The doctor explained that the bright light from the screens interferes with the timely production of the hormone melatonin, which regulates the daily rhythm of all living organisms. According to the dermatologist, this leads to difficulties in falling asleep and a decrease in the time devoted to sleep.
The stimulating nature of screen content further harms the quality of your nighttime sleep. Social media feeds, news articles, video games, and even work emails keep the brain active in the evening, preventing the transition to sleep.
Freeman said long-term sleep problems can worsen existing skin conditions like acne, eczema and rosacea. Lack of sleep can also increase levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that breaks down collagen (the protein responsible for skin elasticity). These unwanted changes contribute to the appearance of wrinkles. Lack of sleep also weakens the skin’s natural barrier, making it more susceptible to environmental damage and dehydration.
