Scientists from the National Cancer Institute in Maryland found that the risk of premature death from diabetes and heart disease increases with the abuse of two types of foods: sugary drinks and processed meats. Research results presented About NUTRITION 2024 (N24), the platform for the annual meeting of the American Association for Nutrition.
Scientists analyzed health and nutrition data from more than 540,000 people recruited to participate in scientific studies in the mid-1990s. At the beginning of the study, all subjects were between the ages of 50 and 71. The researchers assessed the total amount of ultra-processed foods (processed candy, fast food, fast food, sugar-based drinks) consumed by the participants and established links between specific foods and the development of certain diseases.
Results showed that heavy consumption of processed meats (sausages, hot dogs, bacon, burger patties) and sugar-sweetened beverages were associated with the highest risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as an increased likelihood of death from their complications.
Earlier scientists approvedcabbage and turnips reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.
