Scientists from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) named the places where the most pathogenic microorganisms usually gather. There are such spots in almost every house, and we are not talking only about bathrooms, the press service of the scientific institution told socialbites.ca.
According to experts at Perm Polytechnic University, about 200 times more germs accumulate on an ordinary kitchen cutting board than on the rim of the toilet bowl. Various pathogens accumulate on the surface, the main source of which is usually raw meat and fish.
Researchers recommend replacing wooden boards every three months because they are better at absorbing liquids containing bacteria and giving them room to multiply. Glass and plastic cutting surfaces are more practical as they can be washed in the dishwasher and treated with disinfectants.
Another breeding ground for germs in the kitchen is the sink drain. Colonies of yeast, mold, E. coli and staphylococcus easily form in it. These same organic residues provide a food base for sandflies and other insects and can be eliminated with the help of insecticides.
PNRPU noted that in other residential areas pathogens accumulate most actively in carpets, upholstery and other textiles, as well as books.
House dust mites, which cause allergies and asthma, cause the greatest harm to health.
Since bacteria accumulate on curtains in the bathroom, they need to be washed from time to time. The washing machine remains another breeding ground for germs; Microbial species easily multiply in filters, drain hose, gaskets and drum. The problem can be solved by drying the device and using acidic bleach.
It turns out that even the toothbrush is unsafe due to bacterial exposure, where the microbes that cause tooth decay, E. coli and staphylococci, proliferate. To get rid of these organisms, it is recommended to rinse the brush with hydrogen peroxide or vinegar.
