Scientists analyzed the characteristics of alcohol consumption in Europe from 2000 to 2019. To do this, they systematized and classified information on the subject in the archives of the World Health Organization, and also took into account data from official reports on alcohol sales in the countries studied.
The results showed that the least amount of beer was consumed in France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Sweden. Residents of these countries tended to prefer wine. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia and Spain were characterized by generally high levels of beer consumption and relatively low levels of strong alcoholic beverages.
