Scammers stole tens of millions of rubles from an academician of the RAS and his wife 13:33

In Moscow, fraudsters defrauded RAS academician Valentin Chanturia of more than 20 million rubles. In this respect reports RIA Novosti quotes a source in law enforcement agencies.

For a week, the fraudsters contacted the academician and his wife by phone: the criminals posed as police officers and persuaded the elderly Muscovites to transfer their savings to them to “secure” them, a source of the news agency said. . As a result, 85-year-old Chanturia and her husband lost more than 20.8 million rubles.

A criminal case was opened against the suspects under the article “Fraud committed by an organized group or on a particularly large scale” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum penalty for offenders is 10 years’ imprisonment.
