Scientists discovered how people with hypertension can protect themselves from dementia 11:55

Intensive physical training may help maintain mental performance in patients with hypertension who are prone to dementia. This has been shown by a study published in the journal. Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The SPRINT study began in the fall of 2009 in the United States. It included more than 9,300 patients with hypertension aged 50 and over. Half tried to reduce the pressure to 120 mm Hg, and half to 140 mm Hg.

In an additional SPRINT MIND analysis, doctors found that lowering blood pressure to 120 mmHg significantly reduced the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment, a precursor to early dementia.

Now scientists have analyzed the effect of physical activity on the risk of cognitive impairment. Intense exercise once a week or more was associated with a reduced risk of dementia and mild memory impairment. The protective effect of activity was most pronounced in people under 75 years of age.
