Scientists talk about the obvious effect of puzzles on the brain 15:26

Intellectual games (Sudoku, Wordley and others) do not develop mental abilities. But they improve mood and increase self-confidence. These mental benefits are enough to recommend brain training games, puzzles and quizzes. This has been shown by a published study. International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction (International J. Hum. Comput).

There is no convincing evidence that brain training games can improve cognitive performance, according to a group of leading neuroscientists. A new study has shown that these games are still beneficial: They contribute to mental health.

Scientists analyzed thousands of user comments on brain training applications Lumosity, Elevate and Peak. They used automatic text analysis. Many players stated that they felt better and more confident, even if they did not see any mental benefits. Regularly encountering challenges in games can develop a sense of confidence and independence.

“Pleasure is a powerful personal, economic and cultural force that deserves greater attention,” the authors emphasized.
