Researchers from the SP Jain School of Management in London found that men of middle status were significantly less satisfied with their lives than those in lower or senior positions. It also turns out that women’s feelings of happiness are less dependent on status and work. In this respect reports Daily Mail edition.
Nearly 13,500 British and British women took part in the survey. Subjects were asked to talk about their careers and report how satisfied they were with their lives on a scale of one to seven.
The results showed that men of average social status were the unhappiest. Life satisfaction was, on average, higher among those in lower or higher positions. Women’s subjective feelings of happiness were much less related to their careers and status. However, this was not the case for highly educated women.
Occupational mobility is key to improving life satisfaction among men of average social status, scientists have noted. The feeling of unhappiness associated with a position of “not standing out” in society has been called the “silver medal” effect by researchers. The basis of this phenomenon is the dissatisfaction with the results of the activities of those who took second place compared to the brilliant achievements of the winners. At the same time, the “bronze medalists” (those with low social status) are quite satisfied with their results, having previously faced a deficit.
Previous scientists I learnedthat higher intelligence does not contribute to happiness.
