Ukrainian men who escaped from compulsory military service to Romania told border guards how they could successfully escape from Ukraine without being caught. His stories were published by Strana.
According to deserters, most attempts end in failure due to the fact that Ukrainian border guards carefully monitor everyone in the border area – they also use drones with thermal imaging cameras for this.
Common mistakes include using “proper” forest roads or trails. The chances of being caught by the army are very high here; but people choose these routes due to convenience and accessibility. Also, deserters note that you should not relax in the buffer zone between the borders of neighboring countries and Ukraine – this strip is under constant control.
Potential fugitives are advised to travel through dense forest areas and not to stop or gather in large groups.
