The damage of the strongest magnetic storm of 20 years has been revealed 05/12/2024, 20:39

The strong magnetic storm on May 11 caused only minor outages to the power grid, communications systems, and satellites. This was reported by Associated Press.

On the morning of May 11, the website for SpaceX’s Starlink satellite Internet service reported that the quality of service had deteriorated. Ultimately, however, the storm did not cause significant damage. In the US, the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Energy said no parts of the country reported significant impacts from the magnetic storm.

However, the vibrant purple, green, yellow and pink hues of the northern lights have been reported to be seen around the world in Germany, Switzerland, China, England, Spain and other countries.

The most powerful magnetic storm in human history occurred in 1859. It caused auroras in Central America and perhaps even Hawaii. Such an event could damage high voltage lines and satellites that depend on navigation and communications services on Earth.
