Police from 27 European countries arrested 135 people in an international macro operation against child trafficking, they also defined 133 possible victims at the borders of the continent.
Spain participated in the operation, which was carried out from 6 to 13 June through the Intelligence Center for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO), the Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday.
23,000 participating agencies, coordinated by Frontex in cooperation with Interpol and Europol, conducted controls at approximately 13,500 points at sea, land and air borders, especially on the most used routes in Europe.
In total, they registered more than 193,000 vehicles and controlled 970,000 people, of which 11,138 were underage.
The Ministry of Interior recalls that minors remain the most vulnerable group among victims of human trafficking and exploitation.
Many are victims of sexual abuse or different types of crime, including petty crime and drug trafficking.
